Quick Tips for Summer Health and Wellbeing
Earlier this year, Tess Zasuwa, one of DHS Group’s Certified Health Coaches, joined us on the blog to share a little bit about the value of working with a coach and why it’s important to take a stake in the health and wellbeing of your employees. Tess is back on the blog this week to give a few tips on how to keep moving and keep wellbeing in mind during the busy summer season ahead!
Vacations are all fun and games, right? We all know traveling can be an amazing opportunity, but on the flip side, unfortunately, it can also wreak havoc on our health. Before you head out on your trip, make it a priority to find a balance and decide early to make healthy choices at your getaway destination while you’re also having fun!
Check out these tips for staying healthy and well while you have fun in the sun (or wherever else your travels may take you):
- Pack Nutritious Snacks – Have a good option to grab when you are on the go so you are less tempted to choose a candy bar or chips. A few good examples, that stick to the recommendation of less than 200 calories with around three grams of fiber and five grams of protein, include: fruit, trail mix, nuts, veggies, tuna and whole wheat crackers.
- Hydrate – When on the run and outside of your normal routine, it can be easy to forget to drink water. Hydration is the foundation of your livelihood, so be sure take a water bottle with you where you go. Try to avoid caffeinated and sugary beverages because they provide reverse effects. Another plus is that staying hydrated can help prevent you from being ravenous and consuming too much food.
- Catch Some “Zzzs” - Get as much sleep as you can in transit and once you arrive. If you are in the position of adjusting to a new time zone, try to stay awake until your destinations “normal bedtime” the first night. Adequate sleep is key to helping your immune system stay strong, so it’s definitely something to prioritize.
- Fit in Fitness – Make time to be active while away! Vacation is an opportunity to get active in ways that you might not have the opportunity to do on a normal day-to-day basis. Things like walking to your lunch destination, riding a bike on the boardwalk, doing yoga on the beach are some fun ideas! Wearing your Movband or other activity tracker even while on vacation can help keep you motivated to reach your daily goal.
