Is Your School's Health & Wellbeing Ready for 2018-19?
Believe it or not, back-to-school is just around the corner. While you gather up the supplies you need and wrap up final preparations, it’s also important to take the time to make sure your school’s health and wellbeing programming is ready for the new year.
Similar to the lists of pencils, notebooks, paper and crayons that students receive prior to a new year, here’s what you should keep in mind when you’re shopping that perfect program to keep your students and teachers healthy and well.
- Set Goals: Before you can put a wellbeing program into place, it’s important to know what you want that program to be doing? Maybe you want the program to motivate your employees and your students to be active. Or maybe, you’re looking for a program that can support online learning. Whatever your goal, having it in mind as you start on your quest is the perfect first step to set you up for success.
- Choose Programs that Support Your Goals: If your programming doesn’t support the goals that you’re working towards, the programming can be nearly useless. Make sure the program that you’re working with not only integrates with your plans and systems, but can also flex as your needs and wants change throughout the year.
- Incorporate Wearables & Gamification: One of the most successful ways that health and wellbeing programs can be incorporated into the school system is through the introduction of gamification – that is, turning the idea of wellbeing into a game, and
one of the main aspects of this is utilizing wearables in your programming.
- Look for Flexibility: Alongside the importance of including wearables and the choosing a program that supports your goals, finding flexibility is the final, and arguably the most important, item on the check-list. Programs that offer multiple wearable plug-in options (look for ones that integrate with Fitbit, Garmin, Apple Watch and other third-party devices) and ways you can change and update the program’s information for what you’re looking for, are most likely to be able to be programs you can stick with for the long haul.
If you’re having trouble checking off an item or two on your list, or if you’d like to talk to someone about starting your school’s wellbeing program from scratch, DHS Group’s team would love to talk with you!
