Stressed at Work? Solutions Start Here.

Work, no matter how much you love it, can be stressful! But just because it’s stressful, doesn’t mean we have to let the stress get the best of us. There are things that we can do!

DHS Group’s team of wellness specialists, registered dietitians and health coaches are here to help – sharing a few ideas on how they like to beat stress at work and more.

1.     Get Active!

Not everyone has access to a gym or fitness center at the office, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use physical activity to beat workplace stress. Things like taking a walk around the parking lot, shutting the office door and doing a few sit-ups or push-ups or getting outside for a quick walk and a breath of fresh air during lunch are great places to start.

2.     Take a Minute

A lot of time, stress at work can manifest as “hunger,” when maybe that’s not really the full story. Registered Dietitian Melissa Vajas says, “Give yourself a quick reality check and ask yourself if you’re really hungry or just want food out of stress. If you’re truly hungry, grab a healthy snack like an apple with peanut butter. If you’re really stressed, find a positive solution like taking a quick walk while listening to your favorite song or podcast or call a friend for a quick pick-me-up.”

3.     Own your Time After Work

“I make sure to prioritize participating in my favorite class – either barre or yoga – after work a few times per week,” Health Education Manager Tess Zasuwa, said.

4.     Know Yourself

The same ideas to beat stress at work, don’t work for everybody (beating stress would be easy if that was the case!). DHS Group Wellness Specialist Raychel Green enjoys taking a minute to flip through pictures of her dogs, listening to early 2000s “jams,” or having a glass of tea. On the flip side, DHS Group Wellness Specialist Wendy Hummer has found that adding a few plants to the office, running a diffuser with calming oils and taking deep breaths helps her beat the daily workplace stress.
